I haven't posted in awhile, but that's because I've been busy losing weight! Ok, well, I plateaued a little during the Thanksgiving holiday, but I still lost some weight this week. :)
So last Tuesday I had my first appointment with my new fitness trainer. When I lived in NY I had a great trainer, but hurt my foot and had to stop going for awhile and lost all the ground I'd gained. But I really enjoyed having the one-on-one support of a trainer, and it kept me motivated for a long time. My new trainer seems really cool, she's more of a weight lifter than the last trainer who was into running, and they both have totally opposite styles. My NY trainer was extremely organized and really designed a great weight loss regimen for me that was on a continuum; as I got more fit, she ramped it up in even increments, so it could be done at home by oneself. This trainer, Lisa, showed me a lot of moves that can be done with just a small amount of home equipment, which is what I want. I do not want the hassle of joining a gym when I have a whole gym at my disposal here at home. She asked about my goals, my diet, etc. But she didn't weigh or measure me, like the first trainer had, which kinda bugged me a little. I insisted on standing on the scale in her office, so I could at least have a baseline measurement. I need to be able to see it in writing, to be able to graph my progress, to believe that it's true. That's why I write this blog. I think record-keeping is very important, especially for weight loss.
And so does Weight Watchers, who changed their plan this week to the "PointsPlus Program", amid much hoopla from the press. It's really not that different from the original points plan, it just gives more weight to more nutritious foods than "100 calorie packs" of cookies. Fruits and almost all veggies are 0 points now, which means you can eat more! I've been doing pretty well, this week I managed to lose 1.8 lbs on the program, even with Thanksgiving thrown in! YAY!
Yesterday I met with Lisa the trainer in her studio and we worked out for an hour. It was a mixture of cardio and weight-training with some plyometrics, yoga and pilates mixed in. " The Boring Basics" Lisa called it. But I worked up a sweat, and the hour flew by. We made another appointment for Friday. But again, she didn't write anything down. My old trainer, Judy, had a computer program that would print it out and she would email it to me, and I really miss that. But it's early days yet, and I really did enjoy the workout with Lisa, so we'll see how it goes.
Oh, and I almost forgot...I GOT A NEW CAR!!!!!( see gratuitous photo up top)
